The huge range of lighting fixtures options has its drawbacks.

It becomes more and more difficult to choose from thousands of models one that is right for you, satisfying all the requirements for functionality and appearance. It is important to remember that for any room, the decisive factors in choosing a chandelier will be the total area of the room, the presence of natural light, the height of the ceilings, and so on.

BEDROOM

Proper lighting for the bedroom is very important because sleep takes up a large part of human life and greatly affects the quality of mind. The light in the bedroom should be soft and diffused. We remember that melatonin, the sleep hormone, is produced in the darkness, so lamps with excessively bright daylight affect the quality of sleep in a bad way. Ceiling chandeliers with frosted shades directing light to the sides or ceiling, with one light source or with several diffuse ones are ideal. The atmosphere should be soft and calm, so you should choose rounded chandeliers that will illuminate the center of the room or the bed. A good material for a ceiling lamp in a bedroom is fabric, which diffuses and dims the light well. Ceiling chandeliers, complemented by frosted glass or acrylic, also look good in the bedroom. Bulky pendant models are best left for other rooms since maintaining a sense of spaciousness and free space in the bedroom is very important. Choose models that do not contrast too much with the color scheme of the room (unless, of course, this is provided for by the design of the room). A good solution would be a rounded ceiling chandelier with soft light and a pair of sconces above the bed or table lamps on the bedside tables so that the lights can be turned off without getting out of bed.

There is no need for a large number of lamps: you are not faced with the task of flooding every corner of the room with light, moreover, the minimum amount of light in the bedroom that is comfortable for the eye will keep the atmosphere calm and quickly tune in to sleep.

KITCHEN

One of the main factors when choosing a chandelier for the kitchen is the material and reliability since it will be influenced by temperature and humidity most of the time. Choose shades that are easy to remove and clean, without unnecessary bends and depressions. Fat will inevitably accumulate on the chandelier, dust will adhere to it, so it is better to give preference to durable materials that are easy to clean. Fabric shades will quickly get dirty, and thin plastic can quickly lose its attractive appearance due to the heat.

The shape of the chandelier in the kitchen is not so important, the main thing is that it harmonizes with the rest of the interior and provides uniform lighting. It is desirable that there are about three or four light sources directed to the sides or diagonally downward. It is better to refuse complex shapes and large sizes if you do not want to spend an extra hour every month cleaning the chandelier. A good option is flat shades that completely cover the light sources.

LIVING ROOM / DINING ROOM

Usually, the living room is a place to relax and receive guests, so it should be well lit. The diameter or width of the chandelier should be no more than 1/3 of the width of the room, in rectangular rooms this is calculated based on the length of the short wall. When choosing a shape, rely on the interior of the room: both ceiling and pendant chandeliers are good for the living room, the main thing is that they are not lower than your raised hand when you stand at full height, otherwise the lamp may suffer corny from mechanical stress. If we are talking about a dining room, then shades that direct the light downward, directly to the table or bar, would be a good option. In the living room, you can choose chandeliers with diffused light directed to the ceiling or to the sides. If the living room is a place for reading, then it is better to supplement the chandelier with a pair of directional light sources, such as a floor lamp by a sofa or a spot with lamps on moving parts.

The chandelier in the living room does not require frequent cleaning, it is enough to wipe it from dust once every three to four weeks, so feel free to choose lamps of complex shapes that complement the design of the room. Shade materials can be very diverse, they depend more on your aesthetic taste than on the parameters of the room. However, keep in mind that if you smoke indoors or often use incense sticks or other incense, additional resin cleaning will be required and in this case, it is better to give preference to acrylic, durable heat-resistant plastic, or classic glass shades.

OFFICE

When choosing a chandelier in the office, you should take into account its purpose. In most cases, a spotlight, such as a table lamp, is much more important, so the requirements for the main lighting fixture are quite low. If the chandelier is the only light source, then you need to choose more carefully. Ceiling lights with multiple lamps are perfect for the office, which will provide uniform illumination of the entire room. Lamps should be directed either downward, directly to the workplace, or to the walls. It is also better to give preference to LED lamps instead of conventional incandescent lamps. LEDs give a smoother and brighter light. The shade material can be anything, but fabric versions or matte plastic can scatter and soften the light too much, which will be a disadvantage for high-quality lighting of the workplace.

It is advisable to choose chandeliers of stricter shapes, with a small number of lamps, in order to create a comfortable mood for work and business meetings. Overly complex designs will look out of place, unless, of course, your work is related to visual creativity. In this case, rely on your aesthetic preferences, because the main thing is to maintain a working atmosphere that is comfortable and productive for you personally.

BATHROOM

As in the case of the kitchen, the main parameter when choosing a chandelier for the bathroom is practicality. Choose models with shades that are resistant to humidity, hot air, and constant temperature changes. Also, the lamps must be extremely reliably protected from moisture. An excellent solution would be a ceiling chandelier with one or two light sources with shades of glass or durable acrylic. It is better to refuse fabric and other soft materials for shades in the bathroom: under constant exposure to moisture, they will quickly become unusable. Depending on the design of the room, chandeliers with the light directed downward and with one or two light sources directed to the sides also look great. If you are a fan of lying in the bath for a long time, pay attention to the chandeliers with the ability to adjust the lighting from the remote control. Such models will provide both bright high-quality lighting for hygiene procedures, and dim lighting for a romantic atmosphere, ideal for relaxing after a hard day at work. Shades that direct the light upwards should be avoided: condensation will accumulate in them, which can lead to a short circuit. It is also better not to place the chandelier directly above the bathroom in order to extend its life: under the influence of steam from hot water, even the most durable lamp will fail much faster.
