Buying door locks is quite a responsible matter, on which your safety first of all depends. Therefore, it is very important to devote as much time as possible to this issue. When choosing a lock, you need to take into account its burglary resistance and the material of the mechanism. Depending on burglary resistance, locks are divided into 4 classes. The first class is considered the simplest and weakest; it will take only a couple of minutes to break such a lock. Accordingly, the higher the class, the more reliable the lock. It will take about forty minutes to break a class 4 lock, and additional equipment must be used. Among the materials, steel should be preferred. It is not recommended to choose soft metal locks. Depending on the locking mechanism, locks are divided into the following types:
1. ELECTROMAGNETIC
This type of locking system is characterized by durability and a high level of reliability. Electromagnetic locks are not so common, primarily due to the fact that they appeared relatively recently and are considered quite modern. Also, when installing this system, it becomes possible to remotely open and close the door. This type of lock is especially popular on office premises, where there is always a large flow of people. The key is most often a card or a keychain. This type of lock practically does not need maintenance, it is conveniently mounted and quite easy to use. A significant disadvantage of electromagnetic mechanisms is their high cost.
2. ELECTROMECHANICAL
Possesses a high level of reliability and practicality. Electromechanical locks are opened with a key, card, or by entering a combination of numbers. They differ from electromagnetic ones by the presence of a conventional mechanical locking mechanism. This allows the door to be opened in the event of a breakdown in the electric drive. That is why this type of locking system has an even greater cost. This type of lock is ideal for installation on both the office door and the apartment door.
3. CYLINDER LOCK
This type of locking system is very popular. Such a door can be opened with a key, which is also called English, it has the most familiar look. To ensure greater reliability, special armor plates are often installed on the inside of the door. Cylinder locks have a large variety of variations, which does not allow us to characterize this type more specifically. The disadvantage of this lock is the ease of breaking it.
4. LEVER LOCK
This mechanism is simple, reliable, durable, and tamper-resistant. This type of lock is used not only in apartment doors but also in garage doors. Despite a number of advantages, this type of lock is recommended to be used as an additional one. In comparison with cylinder mechanisms, lever mechanisms are less reliable. The key for such a lock is large in size, and the locking mechanism has a through-hole that lets air into the apartment. It is quite difficult to hack them physically, but it is quite possible to find the necessary master key.
Therefore, when buying a lock on the front door, take into account all the features of the locking mechanism and, based on this knowledge, choose the most suitable option for yourself.
